Psychotherapy and Counselling in Marbella

Hello and welcome to my website!

I am a retired psychotherapist based in Marbella on the Costa del Sol, south of Malaga in Andalucia. During my career I offered wide ranging treatment programs for individuals, couples and groups. I also taught modules and supervision for health professionals at universities and colleges. These days I offer advice to those seeking help, and hopefully direct them to a suitable treatment option.

As a senior psychotherapist with thirty years clinical experience, I am aware that seeking professional help in difficult times can be a challenge. Reaching out for help may follow a long period of coping alone, hoping that problems will resolve themselves. At these times support from friends and family is often not enough, and specialised help is essential when we have exhausted other options.

Individual Psychotherapist and Counsellor

People seek psychotherapy for many reasons. We may be experiencing stress, be over-critical or punishing towards ourselves. Problems of addiction and compulsion may be sabotaging our life and relationships. Loss, grief and major life changing events can overwhelm us; and there are times when we need to let go of the past and create a different future for ourselves. I offer support and treatment in a safe, confidential setting, for a broad spectrum of issues including:

  • Negative stress
  • Intrusive and painful thoughts
  • Social and relationship difficulties
  • Trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Depression and anxiety
  • Loss, grief and bereavement
  • Addiction
  • Low self-esteem
  • Neglect and abuse
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

Psychotherapy provides support to help talk about long-standing problems, gaining understanding of issues that are troubling us and finding ways to cope and change our lives.

Couple Counselling

Intimate relationships are one of life’s most challenging journeys; but can also be one of life’s richest. When we choose to share our lives with another person, we bring our personal worlds together in a union. We are called to bridge differences, share our thoughts and feelings; maintain a level of intimacy that both are comfortable with and simultaneously maintain the boundaries of our individuality. Quite a task! Especially if we are bringing up children, living in a foreign country or experiencing external stresses.

Our relationship can feel threatened by:

  • Lack of trust
  • Feelings of betrayal
  • Abusive behaviour
  • Unresolved conflicts
  • Differences of values
  • Work and career stresses
  • Stuck in negative feelings
New and healthy perspectives of relationship emerge from our willingness to be vulnerable and open with our partner. Couple counselling provides a safe and supportive space for couples to examine difficulties, and discover skills to help negotiate their journey together. Learning how to identify and express our thoughts, feelings and emotions with our partner supports healthy relating.

Academic Work

I have been training counsellors and psychotherapists for the past twenty years, both in the UK and Australia. I teach a wide range of psychological theories, and their application in clinical practice, in both undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

I have supervised psychotherapists and counsellors for twenty years, individually and in groups. I now offer these services here in the Costa Del Sol.

I am located close to Puerta Banus, Marbella, easily reached from the east towards Malaga and Fuengirola; from the west towards Gibraltar and Sotogrande; and from the north towards Ronda.
